A special justice has been named by the Arkansas Governor for the ongoing casino cases

Earlier in the week, in a series of challenges aimed towards a ballot of measure that would see as many as four casinos legalized in Arkansas, A Little Rock judge has been appointed to fill in for the Arkansas Supreme Court chief justice.

On Wednesday, September 19th, Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson announced the appointment of Little Rock District Court Judge Hugh Finkelstein as a special justice for the two lawsuits challenging the proposed constitutional amendment on the November ballot.

Additionally, Chief Justice Dan Kemp has been recused from both of the ballot measure challenges.

As per reports, the proposed amendment would legalize casinos at a West Memphis dog track and a Hot Springs horse track both of which already offer electronic gambling. Casino’s would also be legalized in Jefferson and Pope counties.

The lawsuits have appealed to disqualify the proposal from the ballot.
